What to pack
London-Merthyr Tydfil

While it's important to pack light in order to save space in support vehicles, it's also really important to get your cycle and other clothing right. Rain and cold could ruin the ride for you if you're unprepared. Many people spend time outdoors but they normally choose to go out only when the weather is good. We don't have that luxury here.

On your bike.

Essential: We recommend that your bike has a full service before leaving. Bring with you:
  • Clothing: Quick drying clothes. Waterproof jacket, over-trousers, and over-shoes. Warm socks, leggings, hat and gloves.
  • Lights
  • Mudguards
  • Bell
  • Bike lock
  • Pannier rack and Panniers (or a backpack – but panniers are recommended)
  • Simple repair kit and any tools that might be specific to your bike
  • Replacement inner tube appropriate for your bike
  • Pump
  • High energy snacks
  • Water bottle or Camel back
  • Personal medication
  • Head torch (for getting around after the ride)
  • Maps – or smartphone with mapping app (e.g. Viewranger, Strava)
  • Spare battery/battery pack for your phone (mapping apps can be a big drain on the battery)
Optional: book, group games, camera, helmet, snood (face/neck warmer), swimming-suit, compass.

In the support van.

Essential:
  • Sleeping mat
  • Sleeping bag
  • Towel
  • Personal hygiene stuff
  • Battery chargers for lights/phones/cameras
  • Plate, bowl, mug and cutlery (marked so you'll recognise it)
For use at the Reclaim the Power camp:
  • Tent
  • Warm clothing and shoes (best to pack in waterproof bag)
  • Anything else recommended by Reclaim the Power
Optional: pillow, pyjamas, ear plugs
