Cycle to the COP
This December, 150 cyclists arriving from the UK will descend on Paris at the time of the COP21. In order to stop climate change and global injustice, the ride will help build sustainable activists to create positive change in the world.
Starting in London, small teams of people will form and prepare for a five-day ride that will challenge their bodies, minds and ability to live in a community. Through a series of self-development activities, groups will be building their confidence and trust amongst each other to push the leaders inside them to come out, connect with others and go forward. Trainings and workshops will be taking place to give the participants the tools to take action in Paris and back home.
Since the United Nations have been holding the environmental summits, the COPs (Conference Of the Parties), global CO2 emissions have gone up by 63%. Every day, 150 species go extinct on this planet and man-made climate change is causing many to flee their homes. By going to Paris, civil society will be taking the power into their own hands and standing up for Justice. “I had never done a long cycle ride before and wasn’t sure if I would be fit enough. But by the end of this trial, an incredible strength inside of me had been released and I can’t wait to see how this will affect us all when we will be 150 united”, states Tina who’s helping plan the route in France. “This will probably be the biggest gathering of people tackling climate injustice the world has ever seen.” believes Seye.
The tickets for the ride have been released through the Time to Cycle webpage (www.timetocycle.org). The network is encouraging participants to get sponsored for the ride and deposits must be in by the 22nd October.
Ends.
